Ronald E. “Ron” Prouty, 87, of Coddington Rd., Ithaca, NY, died Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY. He was born in Ithaca, son of the late Edward and Edith Johanson Prouty.
Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn “Katie” Myers Prouty; his sister, Joanne Prouty; brother-in-law, James Myers, now living with his daughter, Jamie, in Wilton, CT; nephews, James S. Myers and Jeffrey M. Myers and his niece, Jamie Myers O’Neill. He is also survived by numerous cousins, his lifelong friend, Gordon (Mary) Tubbs and many other dear friends.
Ron was a 1951 graduate of Ithaca High School and attended Cornell University for two years before enlisting in the United States Air Force to serve during the Korean War. He retired from Cornell University in 1995 after 30 years of service as a Supervisor of Technical Services in their Nuclear Studies Department. He and Katie had also owned and operated Ronald Prouty Photography, specializing in wedding photography for over 30 years. He was a member of Hobasco Lodge No. 716 and The Dryden VFW. Ron loved working around his home and was an accomplished welder. He never had an unkind word and loved helping his friends and neighbors.
No public services are being planned at this time. In lieu of flowers donations in Ron’s memory may be directed to the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
