Irene Francis Petito (Casciotti), 90, of Newfield, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on December 6, 2019. Irene was born on May 10, 1929 and was a lifelong resident of Ithaca and Newfield. Irene was the beloved wife of Tony Petito (deceased).
The most important thing to Irene was her family. Irene started off in a large family with nine brothers and sisters and was the daughter of the late Enesta and Fillipo Casciotti. Irene is survived by Carl Petito (Karen), Debbie Jackson (Craig) and John Petito (Cindy). Five grandchildren, Sarah Reilley (Denis), Daniel Petito (Genevra), Michael Petito (Malcolm Keim), Christopher Jackson (Katie Steward) and Bryan Jackson, three great grandchildren, Carolyn, Anna and Matthew Reilley and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved. Family always came first for Irene.
Irene graduated from Ithaca High School and went to work for an insurance company. She and Tony married in 1950. Together, they started off building single family homes and then went on to construct and manage apartments throughout Ithaca. Irene would handle the paperwork, mow the lawn, help plow and was always ready to help a tenant. She was one of the kindest people you would ever meet and will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday, December 12, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 W Green St, Ithaca NY. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery on Floral Ave, Ithaca NY.
