William (Bill) Myers, 56 of Ithaca, NY, passed away on 12/09/18 at home due to pancreatic cancer.
Bill was born to Dr. Jeffrey Myers (dec.) and Dorothy (Meyer) Miller on February 2, 1962 in Philadelphia, PA. He grew up around the Philadelphia area and went to high school in Medford, NJ. He attended Lafayette College for his Bachelor's Degree and the University of Massachusetts for his Master's Degree. His first job after graduation was in Cleveland, Ohio, where he met his future wife, Linda. Shortly after he and Linda had their daughter, Rebecca, they moved to Ithaca, NY, where they have lived since then.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda Becker Myers, of Ithaca, his daughter Rebecca Lynne Myers of Philadelphia, his mother, Dorothy Miller, of Philadelphia, a sister, Susan King, of Tully, NY, and his step-mother Diane Myers of Medford, NJ. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Jeffrey Myers.
Bill worked as a software engineer all of his adult life, most recently for a virtual company in Minnesota. He started judo at a young age and was so in love with the sport that he continued teaching, learning, and coaching all of his life. Every year, he and all his little friends went to the YMCA in Huguenot, NY for a week-long judo camp. He couldn't wait to go every year and came home so exhausted he vowed not to go for the full time next year. Yeah, right. He also loved volunteering for the Varna Volunteer Fire Company as an external firefighter and fire police captain. He was just voted in as a life member. Bill's greatest joys, laughter, and loves came from being with his family. He was so proud of his daughter and her many accomplishments. He loved watching Rebecca as she progressed in judo, eventually earning her black belt, wrestling in high school, learning Brazilian jiujitsu, and going on to coach and teach judo, graduating summa cum laude from Rutgers University, and working towards her PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. He also loved traveling with his wife, exploring many of the National Parks and State Forests, hiking ridiculously long and steep trails to find the most glorious views. His only regret was not getting his wife to enjoy camping in a tent. He compromised and stayed in hotels with bathrooms and showers as long as he could hike all day.
Bill requested that there be no funeral. Instead, the family will be sitting shiva and receiving friends/family at their home, 264 Turkey Hill Road, at the following times:
