William J Mobbs, 75, of Ithaca, NY, passed away surrounded by
loving family on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital
in Rochester, NY after being diagnosed with a rare and rapid moving
degenerative neurological disease. Bill was born on May 19, 1941 to
Martha and Louis J Mobbs and was a life-long resident of Ithaca, NY.
He was a graduate of Cornell University Civil Engineering School and
took pride in his 32-year career as the Tompkins Country
Superintendent and Commissioner of Public Works. His latest
employment was at C&S Companies engineering firm, Syracuse, NY
where he worked as a consultant up until the onset of his illness.
Bill married his childhood friend and college sweet heart, Barbara
(Child) Mobbs on July 11, 1964. Bill and Barb made their home in a
large farmhouse on Enfield Falls Road where they raised their five
children, Michelle Decker, Michael Mobbs, Christy Brown, Aaron
Mobbs and Jolie House. Bill and Barb were very happily married and
celebrated their 50
th
wedding anniversary in 2014. Grandpa Bill
leaves behind eleven grand children who adored him, Haley Brooks,
Adam and Grace Decker, Julian, Avery and Milo House, Boston, Alex
and Malia Mobbs and Kjerstin and William Brown. His brothers
Marvin, David and Claude Mobbs also survive him.
Bill will always be remembered as a strong member and leader of the
Mormon Church and for his life-long faithfulness in God. All who knew
him will remember his nearly perfect example of Christ's love.
A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints (114 Burleigh Drive) on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at
10am followed by a short burial service at Calvary Cemetery on Five
Mile Drive.
