William Nelson Bliss

August 6, 1943 — March 26, 2019

William Nelson Bliss, father, son, brother, grandfather friend; age 75, died peacefully on Tuesday March 26th, 2019. Bill was born August 6th, 1943 in Johnstown, PA to Red and Betty Bliss.

Bill grew up in Troy, NY with his parents and younger sister. He graduated from Troy High School where he excelled on the hockey, golf and swim teams; holding numerous records for years to follow.

He and his family attended many RPI Hockey games, as his Father’s love for Hockey was passed on to him.

Bill attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in Accounting and was a member of their Ice Hockey team.

Bill spent the majority of his adult life living in Manlius, NY, with wonderful summers spent with his family on Tully Lake. He enjoyed canoeing, sailing, kayaking fishing and swimming with his children and beloved dog Pockets. You could always find him on the sidelines of his children’s sporting events, rarely missing a game of theirs throughout their high school and college careers.

He also enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, camping and vacations to Cape Cod, MA and Myrtle Beach, SC.

Bill is survived by his three children, BJ (Liz) Bliss of Ithaca, and their children Sage, Kenzie and Trey; Kelly (Ryan) Connolly of Fayetteville, and their daughters Claire and Emma; Heather (Chris) Young of Hamilton, and their children Ela Mia, AJ and Charli, his sister Carol Bliss (Gerry Stahl) of Chatham, MA, his former spouse Linda Bliss of Tully. His loving parents Nelson (Red) and Elisabeth (Betty Boltwood) Bliss of Troy, NY predeceased him. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
