Walter Sczepanski

Born in Ehrenfeld, PA on April 14, 1932, Walt passed away after 90 years on June 20,2022 while under the care of Hospice.

He was the first child of the late Mike and Josephine Sczepanski.  The family moved from Ehrenfeld to Danby, NY shortly after Walt's birth to a farm that would be his home for 47 years.

Drafted into the Army after his graduation from Ithaca High School in 1951, Walt put aside his acceptance to Cornell University to serve his country.  He attained the rank of corporal after three years in Korea and returned to the family farm after he was honorably discharged.

Walt was a member of the American Legion in Danby and also served a term on the Danby Planning Board.  He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, the Mets and the Buffalo Bills and enjoyed hunting with his brothers and friends.

After retiring from working on the farm, he became an avid crossword puzzle fan and would work the New York Times puzzle every day.  Jeopardy and Judge Judy were two of his favorite programs and he would often play Solitaire while watching television.

In addition to his parents, Walt was predeceased by his wife Carol (Shepardson), a brother, Alex, a sister Helen Greene and her husband Milton and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Walt is survived by brothers Frank, John (Mary Nelsen) and James (Linda Mosher) sisters Eleanor Angers, Genevieve Sanford, Margaret Kraft (Joseph) and Shirley Shields (Thomas) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.   In addition, he is also survived by stepchildren Mimi Hodge, Jodi Shepardson, John Shepardson (Sheryl), Bonnie Farrell (Tim), Michael Shepardson and Suzie McCheyene (Patrick).

Special gratitude from the family is due to his brother James and James' daughter Connie Sczepanski (Walt's niece), who provided exceptional care whenever needed during his illness and final days.
