Walter R. Gay

Walter R. Gay, 74, of Newfield, New York passed away on December 26, 2015 after a brief illness. Born on August 14, 1941 to Robert W. and Theresa (Sycuske) Gay. He was raised in the Cortland area and spent his life in the Central New York area. Walt graduated from Cornell University in 1973 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. Throughout his life, Walt, worked in the banking, real estate, grocery and accounting industries. He was the owner of WRG Tax Service for several years. He had been a member of the Newfield Fire Company since 1979 as a fireman and EMT. Walt gave much to his family, friends and community, for many years, not asking for anything in return.
Walt is survived by his wife of 54 years Sharon (Helms) Gay, his children, Susan (Gene) Redman, Patricia Rovatti, Sandra (Kip) Smith, Timothy Gay, Danielle Harrington, and Annie Gay. Grandchildren Ashley (Dan) Abdo, Sean (Janessa) Redman, Katherine Redman and Jaclynn Harrington. Great grandsons, Jake and Levi Redman. He was also survived by his sister, Joanne Cincotta, and several other family members. He was predeceased by both parents and a son, Patrick.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 3 from 12pm to 2pm with a service immediately following at Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his grandchildren's college fund c/o Danielle Harrington or the Newfield Fire Company.
