Virginia Kirk Laux of Kendal at Ithaca passed away July 1, 2017 at age 101 while walking to dinner with her daughters.
Born July 04, 1915 in Topeka, Kansas she was the daughter of Ruby Kirk McLean and Leslie Erskine McLean. She grew up in Waukegan, Illinois and graduated with honours from Northwestern University. After her marriage to John Laux in 1936 they moved to Michigan where Virginia received her Masters degree from Wayne State University. She and 'JD' lived in Corning, New York in the early 1940s and then moved to Ithaca where Virginia taught as a substitute in English for over forty years.
Virginia and J.D. enjoyed a very happy marriage for 65 years including holidays and golfing trips to Scotland, Canada, Europe, and Africa. Virginia was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca, The Ithaca Country Club, many Republican committees, and the Ithaca Garden Club. Well into her 90s, she delighted in activities with friends such as bridge clubs, investment club, book club and aerobics classes.
Predeceased by her beloved sister Jean and her brother Robert, Virginia is survived by daughters Jean (Ottawa, Canada) and Leslie (Tucson, Arizona) and by her many cherished nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be no funeral. A family graveside service took place at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca or to a charity of your choice.
