Virginia Ginny Canestaro

Virginia "Ginny" Canestaro, 85, of Brooktondale, N.Y. died peacefully at home on Friday December 13, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Thank you to the staff of Hospicare for your love, kindness and amazing care.

Ginny was born in Ithaca, NY, on February 17, 1928, daughter of the late Frank and Deabh Thomas Johns. She was the widow of Carmen L. Canestaro (January 11, 2007) 58 years of true marriage.

She loved gardening, watching wild life, cooking for her loving family also was a mother to many and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include her loving children Daughter: Deborah (Richard Schoch) Canestaro, of Ithaca, Sons: Stephen (Michele Carreiro) Canestaro, Carmen (Susan) Canestaro and Joseph (Rose) Canestaro all of the Boston area, 9 Grandchildren: Lesley Richter, Korina Schoch, Marcus Canestaro, Christopher Canestaro Micah CanestaroGabriella Canestaro andMelissa & Mark Etienne and 6 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister: Julie Mead and several Nieces and Nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday December 19, 2013 at 10:00AM at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Jeffrey Tunnicliff officiating. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Bangs Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Ginny's memory may be made to Hospicare of Tompkins County
