DECHELLIS, VINCENT

ITHACA: Vincent J. DeChellis of Sheraton Drive, of natural causes on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Cayuga Ridge Nursing Center. Born in New City in 1914, he was the son of Amelia and Alfred DeChellis; the family moved to Ithaca when Vince was a young child. He attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and graduated from Ithaca High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII from 1941-1945 and returned to Ithaca following the war. Vince had a 27 year career as a machinist at National Cash Register. Following his retirement he began a 25 year career for Sodexo Food Service at Ithaca College. At the time of his retirement from Ithaca College, in 2005, at the age of 90, he was the oldest employee on campus. Vince was a member of V.F.W. Post 961 and American Legion Post 770.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty (Van Berger), son Vincent (Catherine Cosentini), daughter Elisa DeRossier (Roger), 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
