Vickie J. Eggleston

August 13, 1961 — October 11, 2018

Vickie J. Eggleston, 57, of Newark Valley NY passed away on October 11, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her children, Sarah Mitchell and Nathaniel Eggleston. In addition, she is survived by her brother and sisters Butch (Ray Lynn) Zupancic, Joan (Rich) Curtiss, and Tammi Alexander. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Nikki (Jim) Chapin. She was much loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including her best friend Kathy Partridge. Vickie was not only a survivor, she was a warrior against many hardships including breast cancer, and had a close kinship with her breast cancer “sisters” who all have valiantly fought this insidious disease.

Vickie owned the Richford Diner for many years where she met many people who became friends for life. She was a phenomenal cook and everyone was assured of great food and a warm smile. Vickie spent her life taking care of others. She could be counted on in any time of need, opening her heart and home to anyone who needed her. Her compassion knew no bounds. Vickie will be remembered for her kindness and her sharp wit and determination. Until the very end she was worried about everyone else, wanting them to be ok, especially Sarah and Nate, her kids.

Vickie was a beautiful person, inside and out.

After her first battle with cancer she found the following poem and asked that it be shared upon her passing.

By Dorothy Parker
All her hours were yellow sands,
Blown in foolish whorls and tassels;
Slipping warmly through her hands;
Patted into little castles.

Shiny day on shiny day
Tumbled in a rainbow clutter,
As she flipped them all away,
Sent them spinning down the gutter.

Leave for her a red young rose,
Go your way, and save your pity;
She is happy, for she knows
That her dust is very pretty.

A gathering of close family and friends to celebrate her life will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday October 27, 2018 at the Flemingville Church, 540 West Creek Road, Newark Valley, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in Vickie’s memory can be made to the Tappan-Spaulding Memorial Library, a place that was special to her. P.O. Box 397, Newark Valley, NY 13811.
