Valerie M. Jones

Valerie M. Jones, 57, died unexpectedly on August 5, 2013 at the Cayuga Medical Center. Val was born January 20, 1956 in Ithaca, NY daughter of the late Richard and Eunice Jones.

She graduated from Lansing High School in 1974. After high school Val studied to be a nurse and worked as a medical assistant in Ithaca. Shortly after the birth of her son she moved back to Lansing, NY where she helped operate many family businesses including Cecil's Tavern, R&J Mini-Storage, and Lansing Tent Rentals. Val was a loving and devoted single mother, sister, aunt, and caregiver to her late parents. She dedicated her life to raising her son and helping others in times of need. An avid gardener, Val could often be found outdoors working on her lawn and flowers.

Val is lovingly survived by her son, Zachary Davenport of Boston; sister Candace Jones (Mark DeNovellis) of Endicott; brothers Richards C. Jones, Jr. of Lansing, Robert "Mike" Jones of Endicott; nephew Matthew Jones of Ithaca; cousins Beverly and Danny Keister of Lansing; aunt Trudy Jones of Ithaca; and lifelong best friend Mary Voorhees of Ithaca. She is also survived by many more cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society or a charity of your choosing.
