Thelma Orenstein

Thelma F. Orenstein died peacefully on January 4, 2015, at the age of 89. A gifted pianist since childhood, she had a lifelong passion for music. Thelma, along with her beloved husband Stanley, lived in Wantagh, NY for more than 50 years. She relocated to Ithaca after retiring from Nassau BOCES. Thelma left a lasting impression on all who had the fortune of knowing her, and we will forever celebrate her wisdom, creativity, and loving heart. We will miss her humor and enthusiasm, her musical virtuosity, and her loyalty and devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by daughters Ruth Orenstein (Anthony Gabriel) and Beth Orenstein, and grandson Skylar Buono. Thelma was buried at the New Montifiore Cemetery during a private family ceremony on January 8; a memorial service will be held after the unveiling next fall. Those wishing to do so may make a donation in her memory to the Alzhiemer's Association. The family offers heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Clarebridge Ithaca and Bridges Cornell Heights for the extraordinary care Thelma received in the final years of her life.
