Sylvia Baizer, 93, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Max and Nadya Hessel Cohen and was the widow of Ithaca College Professor, Ashur Baizer who died in 2004.
Sylvia was a graduate of SUNY Cortland and had worked as a social worker for Tompkins County for many years prior to her retirement.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Lawrence Baizer and his wife, Elaine Lewis; her daughter, Judith Baizer and her husband, Eric Ramsing and her granddaughters, Sarah and Tessa Baizer. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Molly Zubrow and her brothers, Edward and Benjamin Cohen.
In keeping with Sylvia's wishes there will be no public funeral services. Memorial donations may be directed to the Southern Poverty Law Center (donate.splcenter.org). Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
