Susan Davenport

Saturday September 15, 2012, Susan A. Davenport, 62, of Brooktondale NY passed away suddenly as a result of ovarian cancer. Susan was born in Ithaca NY and had resided in Brooktondale for most of her life. She was a graduate of Candor High School and retired from Cornell University where she spent many years employed at Albert R. Mann Library and the College of Veterinary Medicine. She was a scholar, gourmet chief, artist, photographer, master seamstress and worldly traveler. Sue enjoyed her many years at the family estate and was truly a "jack of all trades". There was no task that Sue could not conquer, be it large or small. Her love for pets and all animals alike kept her busy and content in her country setting. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Mildred Davenport, Sister Sally Davenport-VanEtten and Brother Raymond E. Davenport. She is survived by her brothers Richard (Lowana) Davenport, Ronald (Lynn) Davenport and sisters Marylou (Donald) Woodin and Elizabeth Davenport and sister-in-law Joanne Davenport. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews and their children. Her favorite pet Baxter stayed by her side. Per Susan's wishes, a private memorial will be held for immediate family members at a later date. Expression of sympathy may be made to the SPCA of Tompkins County or the Ovarian Cancer Research fund in memory of Susan A. Davenport. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
