Surrounded by her loving family, the Lord gently carried his faithful servant Stefanie Leigh Barber home on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.
Born with an indomitable spirit on February 19, 1961 in Auburn, NY, Stefanie loved life, and lived every moment to its fullest. Her childhood years were spent on South Hill in Ithaca; after a few years in the Watertown area where she graduated high school, she returned to the Ithaca area. Her professional career as a self-taught medical transcriptionist was augmented by many other jobs to support her family - which always, always came first.
Stefanie's faith and devotion to the Lord were her bedrock and foundation upon which her spirit greeted each day. Her love for her family was her mission, her purpose, and her joy. Our hearts ache immeasurably; she was our blessing. Her life was lived entirely in service to others: she was the first to celebrate, support, grieve, laugh, cook, hold a hand, or show up with hands ready to clean the house or wrap you in her arms. If there was a need, she was there. Until her last breath, her concern remained the comfort and care of those she loved, even as she courageously and determinedly battled the cancer that so quickly took her.
Stefanie will forever be loved and missed in her home by her husband, Mark Barber, whose love lifted her heart and made her whole; and by her son Dilon, whose love, humor and grace will carry her spirit forward forever.
She is also survived by her sisters Sally (Phil) Quick of Danby; Rebecca (Martin) Ahouse of Lodi; and Michelle Hardy Cook of Harford; step-daughters Lisa Barber and Kimberly (Jesse) Voigt; niece Alana Ahouse; nephews Joseph Ahouse and Justan (Stacey) Cook; mother-in-law Priscilla Barber; grandchildren Zoie and Gehrig Barber; and great nephew Hemingway Cook. She was preceded in death by her parents Harriette B. and Harley V. Hardy; and father-in-law Donald Barber.
Her family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the host of friends, family and neighbors whose love and prayers are walking this journey with us. Our gratitude extends to the countless people who continue to help us all. Stefanie touched the lives of everyone whose path she crossed, from the lady in the grocery store to the pharmacy tech to the mailman and to anyone passing by. She walked the walk, and was a living example of God's love and mercy. She will remain in our hearts and souls forever.
