Sophia Malone

Sophia Malone, formerly of 306 Warren Place, Ithaca, passed away on December 2nd, 2013 at Beechtree Care Center. She was 95. Born Sophia Burlew Cleveland on January 22nd, 1918, she was the daughter of Clarence and Margaret Cleveland of Ithaca, NY.

A 1936 graduate of Ithaca High School, Mrs. Malone began her career on the office staff of Morse Chain Company in Ithaca. After marriage and starting her family, she joined the advertising department of American Agriculturist where she spent a career lasting over thirty years.

Mrs. Malone was predeceased by her husband, George A. Malone, Sr. and her brother, Clarence H. Cleveland, both of Ithaca. She is survived by her sister, Susan E. Hastings of Ithaca; her son, George A. Malone of Oak Hill, VA; a grandson, Kevin J. Malone of New Holland, PA; and a granddaughter, Lauren S. Malone of Washington, DC. and her nieces and nephews. She is remembered fondly by her extended family and by her many life-long friends and neighbors who admired her kindness, generosity, humor and independent spirit.

Private graveside services will be held at the Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospicare of Tompkins County. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
