Shirley Katz Hubberman passed away peacefully on November 24th at the age of 91. She was born July 1,1927 in Syracuse, NY where she grew up surrounded by the love and care of a large extended first generation immigrant family from Eastern Europe.
In 1950 she met and married Zavel Hubberman and settled in Ithaca, NY to raise their two children, Alan and Sherrie.
Shirley loved music, dancing and singing. Her children have fond memories of listening, dancing and singing to Mitch Miller and Lawrence Welk. Shirley loved reading, with two or three books always at the ready.
Shirley also loved fashion and shopping, and combined the two in a long career of helping others find just the right clothes- first at the original Rothschilds, and finally The Bon-Ton where she was greatly missed when she retired in 2006.
Shirley was a funny, kind, and caring friend and mother. She was also a proud and devoted grandmother of seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, attending their events and celebrating important milestones.
Shirley had many dear co-workers and friends, and enjoyed a number of women’s dinner groups into her retirement.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Zavel in 2005. She is survived by her children Alan (Brigid) Hubberman and Sherrie Sitch (Paul), grandchildren Nicole Watts, Beckie Sitch (Anthony), and Jay Sitch, and Meagan (Cliff) Coleman, Josh (Julia) Hubberman, Sarah (Colin) Smith and Jeffrey (Victoria) Hubberman, and nine great grandchildren.
Shirley’s family will celebrate her life well-lived in a private graveside service at a later date.
