Sarah Baldwin Suplee died on February 12, 2016 in Ithaca, New York. She was born April 24, 1930 in New York City to parents William Lee Baldwin and Mildred Karnes Baldwin.
She was educated in the Bronxville Schools and at Duke University. Sarah married Colin McLarty in 1951 and had three children: Colin McLarty, Jr. (Chardon, OH), Bruce McLarty (Denver, CO) and Jane McLarty (Ithaca, NY). In 1959 Sarah moved to Chester County, PA. Following a subsequent divorce, she obtained her teaching certificate from West Chester University and in 1963 began teaching high school in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District. She later married Carlton "Soup" Suplee, and it is mostly as Mrs. Suplee that she is fondly remembered by many Unionville alumni. She retired from teaching in 1984 and moved to Ithaca, NY where she first resided on Hudson Street and later at Kendal at Ithaca. She did volunteer work at many places, and for many tears taught English as a second language. She also served as the Associate Editor for both books published by Ithaca photographer and longtime companion Sol Goldberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William Lee Baldwin, Jr, and husband Soup. She is survived by children Colin (wife, Patricia Princehouse), Bruce and Jane, as well as nephew Doug Baldwin (wife Marion Blankopf, son Chris) and niece Ellen Faulkner (husband Douglas, children Rosiland and Sam).
A memorial service will be held in Ithaca at a later date and will be announced.
