Sara Marie Mahool Zifchock

Sara Marie (Mahool) Zifchock passed peacefully on October 19, 2017 at the age of 99. She was born March 17, 1918 in Auburn, NY, daughter of the late James and Louise Solomon Mahool and was the widow of her beloved husband of 56 years, Steve Zifchock.

As a young woman, Sara caught the fancy of Steve and they embarked on a wonderful journey built on family and business. They operated Bishop's Restaurant on Trumansburg Rd. for many years through the late 1950's. That was followed by The Town House Restaurant in downtown Ithaca and then the A&W Restaurant on Elmira Rd. and for many years as the owners of the Fall Creek Laundromat. Sara embraced her leadership roles in all of these establishments and gathered lots of love in doing so. She was a long time member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She lived her life with a strong faith and full of love.

Sara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Zifchock, Sr. and Patricia Love; her sister, Jeanette Ecker; her grandson, James Zifchock, Jr. and great granddaughter, Elly Zifchock. She also leaves behind her nephews, Leo Mahool, John Jr., Gary, Terry and Jeff Ecker and Mike Mahool and nieces, Patty and Didi Mahool. In addition to her parents and husband, Sara was also predeceased by her son, Lawrence Zifchock; her brothers, Sam and Mike Mahool; sister, Rose Marie Mahool; her grandson, Stephen Zifchock; her in-laws, Selma Mahool, John Ecker, Sr. and Anna Mahool and her nephew, John Mahool.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the caregivers at Longview and Cayuga Ridge (3rd Floor staff rocks!).

In keeping with Sara's wishes she will be laid to rest with Steve in a private family service at the Calvary Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church.
