Sara Komaromi

June 23, 1923 — May 8, 2019

Sara Komaromi passed away on May 8, 2019 at the Seneca View nursing facility in Montour Falls, NY at the age of 95. She was born on June 23, 1923 in Ithaca, NY.

Sara graduated from Immaculate Conception School and Ithaca High School. She cared for her ailing mother and helped with the family’s small grocery store located in the front of their house on Madison Street. She married Walter Komaromi in 1950 and they raised their family in Ithaca. Sara was a homemaker and later worked at Cayuga Medical Center where she made many lifelong friends.

She was an extraordinary cook, preparing dishes brought by the DiGiacomo and Cacciotti families from their native Abruzzi region of Italy. Many family members and friends enjoyed her authentic Italian cuisine which she prepared from fresh ingredients grown in her garden or purchased on her daily visits to Wegman’s.

Sara was a thoughtful and considerate person always remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations for her extended family and friends. She was always there to help people with care, with prayer, or with a meal.

She enjoyed a very long life due in part to the excellent medical care she received. Her family would especially like to thank Dr. Cardina, Dr. Jander, Dr. Mauser, and Dr. Bonno for the care they provided. They are also grateful to the staff at Brookdale Ithaca and the Seneca View Skilled Nursing facility.

Sara was pre-deceased by her parents, Joseph and Aldavilla Cacciotti, her brother, Louis Cacciotti, her close cousin Viola Maliski who she considered a sister and her husband, Walter Komaromi who passed away in 2003. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her children, Kurt (Carol) Komaromi, Lori (Merritt) Cash, and Kathy (Mark) Bilyk and by her grandchildren, Katherine and David Komaromi, Alexandra and Christine Cash, and Christopher and Matthew Bilyk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 13, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca at 10:00 a.m. The family will greet friends at the Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 prior to the Mass.
