Ruth A. Munch of Ithaca (Varna) NY, age 87, passed away peaceably on September 15, 2012. Her husband of 65 years, Francis "Bud" Munch passed away on January 30, 2009. She spent the last 66 years in the same location and house. Ruth, a loving homemaker and mother, is survived by all 3 sons and spent her entire adult life serving God, the Varna Methodist Church and the Varna Community Center and Volunteer Fire Department. Ruth was a den mother in Cub Scouts for many years and was an avid cook and loved tending to her chickens, pigs and cows. She would always talk to her animals, knowing that they would do better through her soft and loving voice. Ruth was also a horticulturalist and spent countless hours growing and arranging flowers. She became very attached to growing orchids in the later years and would spend much of her idle time growing and nurturing these flowers.
Ruth was a common fixture at Varna Methodist Church, serving on boards and always cooking for the hundreds of Barbeques that she would help with over the last 50 years. It was the same common theme of service at the Varna Community Center and Volunteer Fire Department where she would serve on the countless Barbeques and Dinners, along with the Carnivals held during the earlier days. Her service to the church, God and the community, along with being a wonderful and loving wife and mother was how she lived her life and was very complete.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Jim, John & Bob, daughter in laws, Pam & Pat, her grandchildren Mychael, Peter & Nicholas, and her Brother in Law, Erwin P. Munch of Washington D.C.
Visitation and calling hours in celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 followed by the service at 11:00 am at Bangs Funeral Home in Ithaca, casual dress preferred. Burial will follow the service and will be held at East Lawn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband Bud Munch. Donations in Ruth's memory may be directed to the Varna Methodist Church.
