Roy D. Johnson

February 2, 1966 — December 11, 2017

Roy Douglas Johnson, 51, of Newfield NY, was called home on Monday, December 11, 2017. He was married to the love of his life, "the most beautiful woman in the world," Shari Lynn Johnson, whom he shared 25 years of marriage with. Roy was a loving, and devoted father of five children, Beth Rockwell, Heather (Mark) Wing, Lisa (Dave) Boehlke, Amber Johnson, and Brandon Johnson, and a beloved grandfather to Jessica, Brock, Ryker, Sophia, Audrey, Zachary, Natalie, Davey, Hannah, Wyatt, and Alex. Roy was the youngest son of Donald Johnson Sr. and Janet Grasso, and step mother, Renee Johnson. Roy is the younger brother to Donald Johnson Jr. , and the twin brother of Edward Johnson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Aunts and Uncles. Roy was pre-deceased by his Grandparents, Peggy & Arthur Johnson, and his Uncle Kenneth Johnson. He was born in Ithaca New York on February 2, 1966. Roy graduated from Newfield Central School, in 1984, where he enjoyed and excelled in track and field, and continues to hold the record for the mile walk. After graduating high school, he worked at Tops and Maguire Gardens. Subsequently, he began his own business; Roy's Affordable Landscaping, which he was successful in maintaining a good reputation and serving his community. He spent some time working at Cuddlin's Meat Market, and worked with his father at Don's Log & Chain for many years. He had a strong work ethic, and shared that with his children. Roy was a lover of all living things (except snakes) and he passed that down to his family. Roy owned a farm for a handful of years, and recently began raising animals again this year. Roy loved the outdoors and was deeply passionate, about hunting. His love for hunting, went further than the season itself, as he carried immense pride in the preparation and in teaching his son, Brandon and son in-law, Mark, all that they know about hunting, and gun safety. Roy enjoyed playing cards with his friends on Thursday nights, and he loved teaching his children his card games, and tricks. Roy was a Buffalo Bills fan through and through, and he enjoyed watching the games with his grandsons while teasing them for not being Buffalo fans. Roy was a teacher of many things, and a wonderful role model for his whole family. His children and grandchildren were lucky to have him as their hero, and life-coach. Among so many other things, he taught his children bravery, how to love whole-heartedly, how to protect themselves, and that, "honesty is the best policy." Roy's love for life was directly reflected in his smile and infectious laughter. He was a very empathetic man, with an enormous heart. You could always count on Roy to share his stories, and put a smile on your face. Being such a generous, and selfless man, Roy would give anyone the shirt off his back, and every single person he met knew that they could count on him if they ever needed anything. Roy was loved by his community, and had immense support during his illness. Losing such an amazing man has left a huge hole, not just in his family, but in the entire Newfield community. "Hey, if I don't see you in the future, I'll seen you in the pasture."

Services will be held Saturday the 16th, at the Newfield Central High School, in the auditorium. Family and friends may call from 9 to 11 am, with a memorial service to follow. A celebration of Roy's life will be held at the Newfield Fire Hall immediately after. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to the Newfield United Methodist Church.
