Robert James (Prottsie) Protts, 64, passed from this world on July 26, 2014 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He graduated from Newfield Central School in 1968 and entered into the U.S. Navy. Jim worked various jobs throughout his life, but the most notable was bartending at the Chanticleer and the VFW Post 961. He was known for his extreme generosity to everyone and especially his support to the VFW and all veterans. Prottsie is survived by his wife, Deborah Reyna-Protts; his mother, Gertrude Protts; sisters, Claudia Protts, Barbara Hall; brother, Ronald Protts; and his children, Melanie and Justin Protts and Kerrie Marshall; grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Emily and Dominic Protts and Skyler Marshall. He was predeceased by his father, Roger Protts; sister, Ruth; and brother, Gerald Protts. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the VFW Post 961, 423 W. State St., Ithaca, NY 14850.
