Robert J. Orrange passed away peacefully at Bridges Cornell Heights on Jan. 3rd 2018. He was 94.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lenore Scanlan of Nutley, NJ, six children; Jeanne, Steven (Flicia),
Charles, Richard, Katie (Eric) and Robert (Lourdes) and six grandchildren:Jodie, Jennifer, Britton, Julia,
Stefanie and Michael. Also sisters, Betty and Ruth and brother William.
Born in Buffalo, NY he attended Canisius College and served in the US Navy on the USS Oneida during
WWII. In 1947 he graduated from WPI, MA with a degree in Engineering. He accepted a position with IBM
in Endicott and Owego, NY where he received numerous Outstanding Achievement Awards especially in
the Space Program and with the Spanish Navy.
He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena parish in Ithaca, NY and an advocate for Social Justice. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 12th at noon at the church, preceded by an hour of
visitation at 11;00am. A reception will follow at 1;00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcome to Hospice of Ithaca, St. Catherine of Siena Church The Sciencenter,
or the charity of your choice.
In retirement Robert was recognized for his many hours of volunteer work at the Sciencenter, especially, "The
Sagan Planet Walk" and 15 years on the Board of Directors. His hobbies included skiing and sailing and he and
his wife operated a B&B at Greek Peak for skiers.They had a small cottage on Owasco Lake for 36 years where
he delighted in spending time with family and friends during the summer.
