Robert J. Burns, 83, of Ladoga Park, Lansing, NY and Pine Island, FL passed away Thursday December 13, 2012 at the Cortland Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Ithaca, NY, son of the late Arthur and Mildred Gravely Burns. Bob retired from the New York Telephone Co. after 39 years of service. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida playing golf, bocce ball and attending weekly martini practice. He was also a member of the Ithaca Elks Lodge #636, the Ithaca Fire Company #6 and Veteran Volunteer Fireman Association. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Betty W Burns. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Joe Brand of Ithaca, and dear friends Bill and Diane LaRock of Lansing. In keeping with Bob's wishes, there will be no public funeral services. In lieu of flowers donations in Bob's memory may be made to the S.P.C.A of Tompkins County 1640 Hanshaw Rd. Ithaca, New York 14850. Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
