Richard Perenyi, 85, of Ridgecrest Rd., passed away Saturday, October 08, 2016 at the Hospicare Residence. He was born in Felpec, Hungary, son of the late Vince and Maria Perenyi of Tarjanpuszta, Hungary.
Richard left Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution, and was lucky enough to settle in beautiful Ithaca, NY in 1957. He was proud of his service in the Hungarian Air Force which spawned a lifelong love of aviation. His first job in Ithaca was with Mohawk Airlines. Even during the past year of his illness he still studied the capabilities of old and new models of jets. He loved attending airshows. Richard would go on to a career as an electrical engineer at NCR. He retired in May of 1996 after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Richard was a kind man in every way and had a deep affection for his extended family. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Garbo and staff and also to the staff at Hospicare.
Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Perenyi (maiden name: Erzsebet Lakcsik) and his daughter, Hede Sue Perenyi. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Vince Perenyi and Laszlo Perenyi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated b Fr. Augustine Chumo on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Hospicare. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
