Rebecca Lou (Tompkins) Norris, 69, died unexpectedly at home on January 12, 2016. Becky was born in Montour Falls, New York on February 10, 1946 and was the daughter of Robert and Phyllis (Chaffee) Tompkins (both deceased). She graduated from Newfield Central School in 1964.
Becky was a dedicated and passionate employee of the New York State Department of Social Services with a career that spanned 51 years. She touched many lives through the years and always had a smile or kind word for those she helped. She retired in 2014 and was surprised with a wonderful retirement party that she thoroughly enjoyed. She was blessed with many friends and, even after her retirement, continued to meet several of her former co-workers for lunch each week.
Those who knew and loved her will always remember her stubborn and independent nature, her love of a good debate, and her ability and pride in finding the best deals in town. Bowling and golfing were two of her favorite activities in past years, and she was active in several leagues. She loved beautiful flowers and enjoyed spending time at local nurseries and plantations.
Becky was a snacker and loved surprising her grandsons, who were the loves of her life, with lots of goodies and treats. Her favorites included cookies, chocolate, trays of pickles and olives, assorted cheeses, chips with french onion dip and her must-have, go-to drink... a can of pop. ?
She was an enthusiastic sports fan and enjoyed watching football and basketball. Her favorite teams were the 49ers and the Syracuse Orange.
Becky is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Scott Nagell of Auburn, NY and grandsons Christopher, Liam, Cavan and Braden. She is also survived by her brother Randy (Fae) of Trumansburg and sister Polly Tompkins Taricska of Lakewood, Ohio; nephews and nieces Michael (Emmalee) Taricska, Brian Taricska, Nathan (Brenda) Tompkins, Ian (Lucienne) Tompkins, Emily (Theo) Ivory and Abby (Michael) Hubbell; Aunts and many cousins. Becky was very close to her Aunt Doris Henry who will be 101 years old this month. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by a grandson Aidan and brother, Daniel.
