Raymond J. Stark

Raymond James Stark, 86, of Newfield, NY died September 12, 2015 at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca. He was born in Ithaca, NY on June 20, 1929 to Ward and Mary (Kirkendall) Stark.

Ray attended Ithaca High School and lived most of his adult life in Newfield, NY. He retired after 30 years as a Sergeant with the Tompkins County Sheriff Department.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings; brothers, Gordon, Wilmer and Frank, his sister, Evelyn White, his Great Granddaughter, Olivia Grace Bowers, his partner, Willa San Soucie and longtime friend, Marty Trinkl . He is survived by his sons, Randolph (Patricia) Stark and Rexford (Leslie) Stark, his grandchildren, Kristi (Keith) Pierce, Jason (Abigail) Stark, Katherine (Jason) Bowers, Matthew Stark and partner, Lisa Baird, and Michael (Alexandria) Stark. Also his Great Grandchildren, Mackenzie and Mabel Stark, Samuel Pierce, Kylie Stark and Justin Bowers.

Ray spent many years raising and enjoying pure bred Redtick Coonhounds, hunting, trapping and fishing.
A lifetime resident of Newfield, Ray spent many years living in the manner he enjoyed the most, in the woods. His first log cabin was built on Connecticut Hill, then years later in a beautiful cabin he built from the property's hemlock timber deep in the woods off Cornish Hollow Road in Newfield.
He will be missed by his friends, Erin and William Mix, Carol and Hal Babcock, Elsie Trinkl, William Bean, Elsie Rose, and Geri Boyce.

At Ray's request, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. Family and friends will gather to have a private graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Newfield.
In lieu of flowers, it was Ray's wish that donations be made in his memory to the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
