R. Donald Wilkinson

R. Donald Wilkinson, 86, of 347 The Parkway, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Cayuga Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Raymond C. and Katherine Brady Wilkinson.


Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose M. Wilkinson; his three daughters, Sharon (Peter) Favretto, and Debra W. Prentiss of Mechanicville, NY and Monica Wilkinson of Ithaca; his grandsons, John and Thomas O'Dwyer and family friend, Thomas Kelly of Sheldrake, NY. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by his special son-in-law, George H. Prentiss.


Don retired as the Postmaster of the Ithaca Post Office in 1982 after 39 years of service and had served with the United States Army during World War II. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Torrent Hose Co. #5, Ithaca Fire Dept., the Veteran Volunteer Fireman's Assoc., Ithaca Lodge #636 B.P.O. Elks and the Finger Lakes Post #961 V.F.W.

A private funeral service will be celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey Tunnicliff at the Bangs Funeral Home. Burial in Calvary Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
