Phyllis Simons

Phyllis Meyer Simons, 88, passed away at the Hospicare Residence of Tompkins County on November 6, 2018.

Phyllis was the daughter of Moe and Julia Meyer. She grew up in Utica, NY and earned a B.S. in Home Economics from Cornell University. During her time at Cornell she met and fell in love with Erik, her husband of almost 57 years.

Phyllis and Erik lived most of their joyful married life in Spring Valley, NY. A few years ago they moved to Ithaca in efforts to be amongst the community that meant so much to them. She was predeceased by Erik in 2016.

Phyllis and Erik’s greatest passion was skiing. In the winter, they could be found skiing with their friends from Ramapo Mountain Ski Club at Mad River Glen in Vermont. With their love of skiing they spent years volunteering with National Ski Patrol and held many positions with the ski club. Phyllis was also an avid cook and was commonly found entertaining in her kitchen. Phyllis thoroughly enjoyed piano, playing tennis, biking, boating, and water-skiing.

Phyllis is survived by her three sons; Elliot of N. Weymouth, MA; Donald & Kathy of Ithaca, NY; and Stuart & Wendy of Forest Hills, NY. She has seven grandchildren; Jonathan, Rachel (Dan), Michael (Bry), Leah, Ariel, Jeffrey (Valerie), and Jordan, as well as her grand-dog, Patch, who spent many hours with Phyllis while she was a memory care resident at Brookdale Ithaca. Phyllis had a brother Robert (Maggie) who predeceased her in 2016.

Friends are invited to attend Phyllis's funeral at Lake View Cemetery in Ithaca on November 7 at 2:00 PM and to join the family for a celebration of her life at Donald & Kathy's residence.
