Philip R. Dankert

Philip R. Dankert, 85 died Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Guthrie Medical Center in Cortland, NY.

Born October 29, 1935 in Hanover, NH, he was the son of Clyde Dankert and Betty Dankert and brother to Julia Hubbard.

Phil grew up in Hanover, NH and graduated from High School in 1953. He then graduated from Northfield Mt. Hermon in 1954 and then Colby College in 1958. Phil proudly served in the US Army, stationed at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska from 1959-60 and then in the reserves. Phil received his Masters Degree in Science from Simmons College in 1963. Phil is a retiree of Cornell University of 41 years, 36 of those years were at the Industrial Labor Relations School as the Collections Development Librarian.

Phil was a devoted husband and father, as well as a volunteer to the local Ithaca community. He was heavily involved in all of his children’s activities and was just as devoted to his children’s endeavors. Phil served on countless boards, always volunteering with local organizations within the community, many serving youth. He was also a volunteer fire fighter for the Lansing Fire Department for approximately 20 years.

In September 1995, the Village of Lansing honored Phil for his years of service by dedicating a Village Park on Uptown Road in his name.

Phil is survived by his wife, Ginny, of 54 years; his children, David, Gregg and Kate; son in law, James Harrington; daughter in law, Shannon Dankert and grandchildren, Aaron Peters (31), Madison Wasley (23), Gavin Dankert (19), Alexus Harrington (18), Rowen Dankert (16) and Serena Harrington (15).

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 27, 2021 at St. Catherine of Siena Church with Fr. Joe Marcoux officiating.  There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cass Park c/o City of Ithaca.
