Pearl Gautreaux Stemley

Pearl Gautreaux Stemley, 89,  passed away on Tuesday February 2, 2021. She was born in 1931 in Los Angeles, CA, daughter of James and Ruby (Smith) Gautreaux. She was predeceased by both parents when she was five years old. At that time she moved with relatives from Grand Rapids, MI to New Orleans, LA. Pearl received her BA degree from Southern University and later a MA degree from Fort Valley State College. Pearl spent most of her life in New Orleans and taught Elementary School in Orleans Parrish, LA until her retirement. Shortly after Katrina in 2005, Pearl relocated to Ithaca, NY.

Always independent, Pearl volunteered and attended classes at Lifelong and was a regular communicant at Immaculate Conception Church. Pearl was a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

When circumstances allow, Pearl will be buried with her parents in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 in New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, donation in Pearl’s memory can be made to Hospicare and Meals-on-Wheels.
