This is for my mother's obituary. Patricia Hanan 10/8/41 to 11/9/24 It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my mother, Patricia, who bravely faced health challenges for several years. She graced this world with her presence for 83 remarkable years, living a full and vibrant life. Patricia's journey began in Jackson Heights, NY, before she moved to Douglaston, NY, in her late teens, where she was later crowned Miss Douglaston. She married Thomas Hanan, and together they had three children before parting ways. Patricia embraced the role of a proud single mother, demonstrating her skill in business, her love for art, and her unwavering commitment to democracy and women's rights. In a remarkable turn of her life, Patricia returned to college and discovered her true calling as a nurse. She dedicated 25 years of her career to Long Island Jewish/Northshore University Hospital before retiring. After retirement, she found joy in the company of her grandchildren, gardening, and actively participating in her local democratic chapter. Patricia also delighted in experimenting with new recipes, reading extensively, and staying informed on medical advancements and current events. Patricia's legacy lives on in the hearts of those she left behind. She now joins her daughter Laurie, sister Marybett, and her parents Robert and Olive. She is survived by her sister Caroline, her son Jeffrey, her daughter Kathleen, and her cherished grandchildren Ben and Annie. We are deeply grateful for your condolences. Patricia was laid to rest in a private burial ceremony at Greensprings Natural Cemetery. To honor her memory, the family kindly suggests donating to the World Wildlife Fund in her name.
