Olga A.. Potorti

July 26, 1926 — November 28, 2018

ITHACA, N.Y. – Olga Ann Potorti, 92, formerly of 205 Washington Street, entered into rest on November 28, 2018 of natural causes. She was a native of Ithaca, Tompkins County, NY, and had been residing at Brookdale Ithaca.

She was born on July 26, 1926, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Perko Saccucci, and was united in marriage on July 3, 1948, in Ithaca, N.Y. to Peter John Potorti, who preceded her to rest on February 12, 2017.

Olga graduated from Ithaca High School and raised three sons, later working as a legal secretary and in Ithaca City Hall as secretary to the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works. As a young mother, she was active in numerous charities including UNICEF and the March of Dimes, and was a Cub Scout leader and an active member of Immaculate Conception Church, teaching youth and volunteering at the church thrift shop. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and in her retirement spent time in the company of ladies with purple hats.

Olga was an avid cook and a prolific embroiderer and quilt maker, and was a devoted and loving companion to her husband. Always ready to share a joke or a story, she was never happier than when surrounded by family, and cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren, in person and online. Her favorite sign-off was, “Keep loving each other.” Family members were grateful to have spent the recent Thanksgiving holiday with her.

She is survived by two sons, William R. Potorti and his spouse Karen Potorti of Berthoud, CO, and David P. Potorti of Cary, N.C., as well as daughter-in-law Nikki Stern of Princeton, N.J. She is survived by two grandchildren, Zane A. Potorti and Isabella J. Potorti of Cary, N.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Olga was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Peter John Potorti of Ithaca, N.Y.; her son, James Potorti of Princeton, N.J.; her brothers, Ralph Saccucci of Hauppauge, NY, and Ronald Saccucci of Elmira, N.Y.; and sisters, Leonora Ryder of West Dennis, MA, and Dorothy Moe of Trumansburg, N.Y.
