Nancy C. Smith, 66, of Newfield, NY passed away peacefully at her home on August 26, 2021. She is survived by her husband, Donald Smith, her children, Corey Cahill (Suzanne VanSant), Jennifer (Timothy) Greenawalt, Kathy Cahill (Donny Hill), several stepchildren, grandchildren, and sister Barbara (Frank) Lupinacci. Numerous extended family and friends.
Nancy was employed with the Ithaca City School District for 27 years as the Cook Manager at DeWitt Middle School. In addition, she was also the Cook for Seal and Serpent where she was inducted as an Honorary Sister. Nancy took great pride in her work and made irreplaceable friendships along the way. Her co-workers were her family and she loved them as such. She enjoyed taking care of everyone and made it her life’s mission to ensure each one of her “kids” was taken care of, even if it meant countless hours in designing special meal plans. She was known to so many as their “grandma” or “mom away from home”.
Nancy was a kindhearted soul whose infectious smile touched so many. Nancy was the kind of person who truly made you feel loved. Her smart wit was unmatchable. She loved to laugh and she loved to make others laugh. There are people who come into your life that will change it forever. Nancy was that person. She loved deeply and loved profoundly. If you were blessed enough to be in her existence you felt it.
Nancy worked hard her entire life to provide for her family. She lived for her family and will continue to live through them. Nancy was an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives. “Goodbye Grandma” will be sorely missed. Her passing leaves a gaping hole in our hearts and our lives will be forever changed.
Services will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 1:00 pm with viewing hours beginning at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the service, the family invites all to attend a Celebration of Nancy’s Life at the Eagles Club, 161 Cecil Malone Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850.
