Mimi Li Dong, age 64, of Ithaca, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away at home on Thursday, October 26, 2017, with her family by her side, following her courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born in Hong Kong on December 23, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Hung Li and Szeto Wong, and wife to the late Shee Dong who died in 1998. Mimi moved to the United States in 1971, where she became a lifetime resident of Ithaca, NY.
Mimi was a long-time employee of Cornell University. She took great pride in her work and was very fond of her coworkers. Mimi loved her family, her friends, and her community fiercely. She welcomed everyone with open arms. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her five children: Chuck Dong; Kelly Warfield (Rob); James Dong; Jennifer Dong (Don); and Stacy Dong (Glenn), Mimi is survived by her grandchildren: Devyn, Tre'Vonne, Olivia, and Lila. She also leaves her sisters Suisan Nichols (David); Joyce Ma (Ken); and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A strong and independent woman, Mimi was an inspiration to many. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 17, at 1pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 114 Burleigh Dr., Ithaca, NY 14850. The family will receive family and friends beginning at 12 pm. Arrangements are with Bangs Funeral Home.
