Mickey Perry – 66, of Newfield, NY passed away unexpectedly on the morning of July 23rd, 2020 in his home with his wife by his side.
Mickey, (Mick) was a lifelong resident of the Ithaca/Newfield area. Mick was born October 5th, 1953, the son of the late Ronald and Constance Clark Perry. His parents had a lively home in the Fall Creek area, where he was one of nine siblings. Although it was simpler times then, with simple rules such as coming home when the streetlights came on, anyone that knew Mick, knew he wasn't rushing home.
Mick spent the first part of his career working for Smith Beverage Company as a beer deliveryman where he was beloved at local bars, eateries, and markets. Most recently, he worked for, and retired from, Hanson Aggregate (formerly Saunders Concrete) as a concrete truck driver. Mick was the picture of loyalty and hard work, while rarely saying no to overtime, or to help a co-worker.
Mick was an avid deer hunter his entire life, and never missed opening day. He was passionate about the thrill of the hunt and found solace during those quiet mornings in the woods. He enjoyed spending weekends at the lake hosting friends, where everyone was welcome to stop by for a drink and conversation on the porch. He also loved cooking for friends in his kitchen, which became affectionately referred to as Mick's Diner. If you ever had the pleasure of dining there, you would know, breakfast was ````````his specialty, the plates were full and were always accompanied by a tasty Bloody Mary. Although the food he made there was special, it was his quick wit and funny stories that created special memories.
Although Mick enjoyed his friends, it was his family that he had the most pride in, he was truly a family man. He was honored to have married his high school sweetheart and found great pleasure in assisting her with anything. This coming November would have marked their 45th wedding anniversary. As a father, he was second to none. He was loving, encouraging, supportive, and backed that up by never missing an important event. He went above and beyond for his family. The fondest memory to describe his affection is how he would wake up around 4:00 am to make pancakes before work and leave them warming in the oven for his family. His love as a father only grew when he had a granddaughter. His granddaughter, (which he referred to as "Lil' Angel") and he, were mutually obsessed with one another; she was his pride and joy. His excitement to move near his family in Florida to watch her grow up was unmeasurable.
He was predeceased by his Son Mickey Perry Jr., Parents Ronald and Constance Clark Perry, Brother Ronald Perry Jr., Sister Cheryl Voorhees of Laporte, TX and Sister Margaret Benjamin of Ithaca, NY.
He is survived by his Wife Donna Perry, Daughter Emily (Joe) VanGorder, Granddaughter Landyn VanGorder, Sisters Linda (Greg) Glisch and Debbie Isenbarger, Brothers Danny (Sylvia) Perry, Paul Perry and Thomas (Arin) Perry. Sister-in-Law Linda Perry and Brother in-law Bill Voorhees all of Texas and Brother-in-Law Kenny Benjamin of Ithaca, NY. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and close friends.
Saying Mick will be missed, is not a strong enough statement; However, his commitment to be a husband, father, and friend will forever be a part of everyone who called him by those names. In the words of a friend, "we are all better for knowing him."
Being committed to his legacy, his family will be planning a memorial service at a later date, when family and friends can gather in the manner he deserves.
