Michael F. Welch, 68, lifelong resident of Ithaca, died unexpectedly on Tuesday evening January 16, 2018 at the Cayuga Medical Center. He was born in Ithaca, son of the late Francis E. "Judd" Welch and Jean Gallagher Welch.
Mike was a graduate of Ithaca High School where he was a three sport letterman. He attended the University of Tennessee and was retired from the Electricians Union. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Newman Golf Course, American Legion and #7's Volunteer Fire Company.
Mike is survived by his wife of 36 years, Robin Bush Welch; his son, Brian; daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Ryan and his grandson, Matthew. Mike is also survived by his brother, Frank; sisters, Patricia and Kathleen and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents Mike was predeceased by other family members including Jim Clines and Terry Welch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Augustine Chumo on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 10am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 11 am until 2 pm at the Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be made to Ithaca High Lacrosse, 118 Rich Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
