Michael Leroy Dickerson

Michael LeRoy Dickerson, age 67, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. Michael was born in Charleston, W.VA on January 25, 1948, to Otha, Sr. and Catherine (Landry) Dickerson. He was an Ithaca High School graduate, Class of 1966, he attended Emerson College in Boston, MA and University of Buffalo where he met and married his wife of 41 years, Patricia (Pope) on June 29, 1974.
Michael worked for the City of Ithaca as a building code inspector for 27 years before his retirement in 2006. He was a talented artist who enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Moremi Fletcher, of Alexandria, VA, and Taisha Dickerson of Ithaca; son, Koro Dickerson of Ithaca; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Murapa and Susan Dickerson of Ithaca, NY; Evelyn Smith (Beuford) of Brooklyn, NY; Celeste Dickerson of Washington, DC and brother, Paul Dickerson of Ithaca. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Otha Dickerson, Jr. (Chip), in November, 2015. Survivors include his aunt, Christine Dickerson and uncle Richard Dickerson of Charleston, WV; his mother-in-law, Wilhelmenia Smith, a brother-in-law, and 4 sisters-in-law, all of Buffalo, NY, as well as many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews across the country.
A memorial will be held at Bangs Funeral Home on Friday, January 22. The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m., prior to the 2:00 p.m. service. The family is very grateful for the services of Hospicare. Donations in Michael's memory may be made to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
