June 15, 1944 — November 29, 2024

Manlius

On the evening of November 29, 2024, Meredith L. McCray of Manlius, New York passed away peacefully at the age of 80, in Ithaca New York.

Born on June 15, 1944, to Cecilia and Philip McCray, Meredith grew up with a deep love for learning and a passion for helping others. She earned her master’s degree from Syracuse University and served as a speech-language therapist for pre-kindergarten children in the Syracuse City School District, focusing on providing vital early interventions that gave her students the tools to communicate and thrive. Her patience, insight, and commitment profoundly impacted the lives of many children and families.

Meredith was known not only for her professional service but for her gentle and loving spirit. She found purpose and connection as a member of the Rapha Community, an non-denominational group with a diversity of beliefs, where her faith and wisdom inspired all who knew her. A peacemaker at heart, she was a companion to those on the journey of self discovery and the search for harmony. Her dedication to women’s rights was a guiding principle that shaped her daily life and decisions.

Meredith found joy in reading, crafting, coin collecting, singing, exploring history, and engaging in long, thoughtful conversations that reflected her deep curiosity and wisdom. She loved to spend time with her family and her grandchildren, and find any way to inspire them to curiosity.

Meredith is survived by her brothers Thomas McCray and John McCray, her two sons, Christopher Blizzard and Joel Blizzard, and by her four grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life and the source of her greatest pride.

Meredith’s legacy is one of love, service, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and the many people whose lives she touched.
