Marylee Johns, 73, of Ithaca, NY, passed peacefully on July 6, 2018 in Winter Park, FL surrounded by family.
Born June 30, 1945, Marylee was the daughter of Hunna and Mary Johns (Hooten).
Marylee held a BA in English Literature from Elmira College, a MS in Education from Northeastern University, and was TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certified in New York State. ESL (English as a Second Language) found her early in her teaching career at a private preparatory school with a sizable foreign student population. She had found her passion and pursued a career teaching English to foreign students from all over the globe. She taught at the high school, community college and university level, ultimately serving as a Senior Lecturer in the Cornell University Intensive English Program.
Marylee was a devotee of dance, yoga and swimming, and her travels took her to Europe, South America and Africa.
Surviving her are daughter Hilary Cullen (Mike) of Orlando, FL, son Josh Taube (Krista) of Tampa, FL, and five grandchildren: Kylie, Aedan, Emme, Mila and Alex. She also leaves a brother Charles Johns of Boca Raton, FL, a close cousin Karen Johns of Ithaca, NY, and many other dear family members.
Strong, smart and witty, Marylee will be missed by family, friends and former students around the world.
Calling hours will be held at Bangs Funeral Home from 11AM – 1 PM on Wednesday, July 18th.
