Mary Wells

July 20, 1942 — February 23, 2021

Enfield: Mary Wells of Lansing, NY, formally of Enfield, NY, passed away peacefully at Oak Hill Manor, Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the age of 78. Born in Ithaca, NY, Mary was the daughter of the late Harvey and Velma Bailey.

Mary is survived by her son, James (Janet) Strait, her grandchildren, Joshua and Jared Strait, Amber and Jessica Bohall, Shaune Moseley, and Tyler Strope, her great grandchildren, Lucas Manwaring and Mason Sgarlata, her nephew Tim (Courtney) Bailey and niece Kelly LaPoint of Enfield, NY. She was predeceased by her brother, James “Jim” Bailey, and son, Eben “Ed” Strope Jr.

Growing up, Mary was a sweet and sassy daddy’s girl, a bit tomboyish, and a bit stubborn. She never changed. Like her father, she spoke her mind most of the time and like her mother, she tried to treat people with more respect than maybe they deserved at times. Mary often talked of riding motorcycles and being rebellious enough to have fun but not so much as to get in trouble. She was a good friend to have.

Mary loved working outdoors and watching the wildlife out her window. She often fed the wild turkeys, deer, squirrels, racoons, and fox in her back yard. She appreciated her privacy but, the visits from her friends, relatives, and neighbors were enjoyed a great deal.

She made several good friends while at Woodsedge and was grateful for their help and company. One small dog made her smile and it was a high priority of hers to strategically place a treat every day for Bean.

Mary will be greatly missed by all of the lives that she touched.

A private family service will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to honor Mary to consider a charitable donation to your local food bank , the Tompkins County SPCA , or the Foodnet Meals on Wheels program .
