Mary Elizabeth Shay age 77 of Ithaca, NY died June 29, 2015 at Cortland Regional Medical Center. Daughter of Charles and Nellie Doan, Mary was born November 30, 1937 in Waverly, NY. On September 22, 1958 Mary married Edward Shay. In 1972 Mary and Edward moved to Ithaca with their daughters. Mary worked for forty years as a home health aide, providing exceptional care for several families. Mary was a hard worker her whole life. She took great pride in her work and was never one to cut corners. Mary devoted endless care and concern to her family and her home. Survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward, daughters, Susan Shay of Ithaca, NY, Patricia (Lars)Washburn, Ithaca NY, and Eileen(Dave) Cooper, East Syracuse, NY. Grandchildren: Katie( Nick) Craven, Kaarin(John) Chavez, Neil Washburn, Trey and Amelia Cooper and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Frances(Tony) Matthews. Mary was predeceased by her brothers Guy and Gerald Doan and a sister Alberta Muckey. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mary's life will be held Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11 AM at Danby Federated Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Tompkins County SPCA.
