Mary Anna "Marion" (Benedict) (Perry) Schano passed peacefully while asleep in her home as she wanted on December 13, 2017, at the age of 88. She was born September 1, 1929 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Magdalen (Solvester) Benedict.
She was predeceased by her first husband Thomas (Tom) Charles Perry (1958) and her second husband Edward (Ed) Arthur Schano (2010).
Mary attended Immaculate Conception School, graduating in 1942 and Ithaca High School from which she graduated in 1946. She married Tom Perry on February 7, 1947 and together had eight children. After being widowed, she married Ed Schano and his four children on November 18, 1967 and together they had three children.
Mary's life was filled with family, friends and church, not necessarily in that order! She loved her family, she enjoyed her friends, and she lived her faith. Hardly a day went by that Mary was not going to Mass somewhere whether at home in Ithaca or during her many times away, wintering in Ellenton, FL or summering in Elgin, Ontario. Also while visiting family in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina or Texas during her years of travel with her husband Ed. She was a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Church, while also frequenting St. Catherine's of Sienna church in her later years.
Mary was an avid baker and always maintained a freezer full of treats, especially Chocolate Chip or Oatmeal Cookies that she gave away to family and friends that visited. A voracious card player, many evenings were spent in her various homes and vacation locations playing every game she knew or learned, but especially Pass the Ace, 65, Casino, Cribbage, Hand and Foot as well as the marble game and Horse Races.
She is survived by her sisters, Josephine (Benedict) Churey and Elizabeth Ann (Benedict) Leonardo and by her brother Francis Edward Benedict. She is predeceased by her brothers Joseph Benedict and Valentine William Benedict. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, John Churey and sisters-in-law Barbara Benedict and Dorothy Benedict.
She is predeceased by her son Edward S. Schano (Marion) and is survived by her children Thomas E. Perry (Nancy), Eric G. Schano (Sandi), David J. Perry (Lori), Richard J. Perry (Donna), Deborah Schano Henry (Steve), Loraine Perry George (William), Joseph H. Perry (Connie), Mary Anne Schano Flowers (Jeff), William P. Perry (Janice Boyd), Robert F. Perry (Bonnie), Margaret Perry Wooley (Steve), Michael J. Schano (JoAnn), Catherine M. Schano Lama, Andrew A. Schano (Linda).Mary is also survived by dozens of grandchildren (46), great grandchildren (50 and counting) and numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mary's wishes, Calling Hours will held at Bangs Funeral Home on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from Noon-2:00 p.m., a Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with a private family burial at Calvary Cemetery following. A celebration of her life at Lake Watch Inn will follow the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers any donations or memorials in her honor may be made to Immaculate Conception Church.
