It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved mother Mary V. Qualtiere Gigliello, 105, formerly of Ithaca, NY, who passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Massachusetts. She was born in Lilly, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Anthony and Angelina Qualtiere and was the widow of Charles J. Gigliello, who died in 1979.
Mary was one of nine children, who was raised by her grandparents after the passing of her Mother. Mary moved to Ithaca, New York as a young adult following other family members. She worked at Ithaca Gun Company and Cornell University and in 1944 married Charles, “Charlie” a lifelong family friend from Lilly, Pennsylvania. Mary stayed home to raise her two daughters until the late sixties, when she went to work for Rothchild’s Department Store in Ithaca, New York. Mary worked in the ladies clothing department, a job that she loved as she was always a social person, who truly enjoyed being around people. Mary worked there for many years until retirement. Mary traveled extensively to Hawaii, Canada, Europe and the US. She loved to see new places and experience new things and even when larger trips were too difficult for her, she would take day trips and go to lunches and dinners with her sisters and friends from the senior center. Mary loved reading, listening to music and participating in a variety of activities.
Mary was a dedicated mother first and foremost, who will be missed more than words can express.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles and all of her sisters and brothers. Mary is survived by her daughters Sharon McClellan (William) and Toni Gigliello (Barry Sugarman); grandson Derek McClellan (Andrea); granddaughter Gillian “Caitlin” McClellan (Richard Walsh) all of Massachusetts. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mary will be laid to rest privately at the Calvary Cemetery. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church at a future date. Donations may be made to: The Alzheimer's Association 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452 (617 868-6718).
