Mark T. “Tim” Garvey, 69, passed on the beautiful morning of September 7 (exactly his kind of day) at the Hospicare residence after navigating the rough seas of cancer. He was born to the late Helen and Mark Garvey and spent his life in Ithaca. He was a tradesman specializing in heating and plumbing and over the years, he amassed a large and loyal customer base.
Tim (aka “Garv” aka “Garvey”) had tremendous friends, some for 40+ years, some for shorter times and lots of acquaintances. He was well-known and appreciated for his cheerful, affable self with that smile … whistling, greeting with a hearty “Hello”, often with a tale or two to tell, eager to have a conversation on just about any topic (and making no bones about having a strong opinion when he had one). He was equally as happy to just shoot the breeze.
Tim had many interests through the course of his life: skiing, horses, windsurfing, sports cars, cycling, sailing, shooting sports and Wegman’s. Each captivated him and he delved into each with fervor and gusto undaunted no matter what the learning curve or skill building involved. Ever was his love of the outdoors and music, especially classical and particularly Bach, Tim’s inspiration to build his harpsicord.
We sincerely thank the staff at Cayuga Oncology Associates, Beechtree and Hospicare. You all cared for Tim and it was obvious that you also cared about him. We are grateful.
Tim is survived by his niece, Maeve, brother Paul, sister Meg and the scores of folks who will remember him fondly as the “really good guy”, “really sweet guy” he was.
Those interested are invited to contribute to a charity of one’s choice in his name. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday October 15, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the large Pavilion at Stewart Park.
