Marion W. Raymond

January 26, 1921 — August 1, 2014

Marion Wright Raymond, 93 years old, passed away peacefully from heart failure, Friday August 1, 2014 at Hospicare of Tompkins County,

She was born January 26, 1921 in New York City to Thomas and Elsie Wright of Chappaqua N.Y. She developed an early interest in the natural world as she walked freely in the neighboring countryside. Horace Greely School in Chappaqua provided a good education and she attended Russell Sage College Nursing Program, graduating with a B.S. and an R.N. degree. On August 2, 1942 she married Robert Raymond, M.D., of Albany.

During World War II, while Dr. Raymond served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific, she worked as a nurse at Albany Hospital and with the Visiting Nurse Association, caring for many homebound patients.

After moving to Unionville in the Town of New Scotland, Mrs. Raymond served on the boards of Albany Planned Parenthood, the New Scotland Historical Society, the Dana Natural History Society, the Friends of Schuyler Mansion and many Bethlehem Central School District committees. She and Dr. Raymond were enthusiastic gardeners, and reforested many acres of their farm. They advocated a healthy lifestyle and after moving to Ithaca in 1997, they walked and snowshoed in many local parks.

Mrs. Raymond is survived by her daughter Dorothy Matsui (Yas), sister in law Terry Boyd, grandchildren Timothy Matsui, Johanna Matsui ( Mark Storch), Jessica Scofield (Jon), and Sarah Knowles, nieces Bonnie Boyd and Nancy Merrymman, nephews James G. Boyd,, George Wright, Douglas Wright, Peter Wright, Jeffrey Wright and Bill Wright and their families.

She is predeceased by her husband Robert Raymond, children Susan, William and Carol and nephew Thomas Wright.

Celebrations of her life will be held Friday August 15 at 1:00 pm, Kendal at Ithaca,

2230 N.Triphammer Rd. and Saturday October 25 at 2:00 pm, Westminster Presbyterian Church, 262 State Street, Albany.
