Mario William Guidi, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Cayuga Medical Center. He was born in Carpineto, Italy, son of the late Jack and Isabella Saccucci Guidi and came to America as a young child. His wife, Margaret Mary predeceased him in 1991.
Mario graduated from Ithaca High School and served with the United States Army during World War II. He was the founder of M.W. Guidi Construction, responsible for building such local projects as The North Forty, The Station Restaurant, Cooke Cadillac, The Char Pit Restaurant, United Rent All and several custom homes for prominent local residents. In his free time, he successfully coached Kiwanis and Babe Ruth Baseball, Belle Sherman Bucks Basketball and Elks Small Fry Football. Mario was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Mario is survived by his daughter, Karen (Tony) Michaels; his son, Michael (Mary Jo) Guidi and his grandsons, James and Joseph. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister, Beatrice Ciaschi, who survives him and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mario was also predeceased by his sisters, Mafalda and Josephine and his second wife, Caroline.
A Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated by Fr. Jeffrey Tunnicliff on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Friends may call on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mario’s memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 113 N. Geneva St., Ithaca or to the Immaculate Conception School Basketball Program, 320 W. Buffalo St., Ithaca.
