MARIAN CUTTING
Marian Cutting died peacefully at sunrise on Thursday morning, March 10th, 2016, surrounded by family. Marian was born in 1927 in Yonkers, New York. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will be remembered for her love, intelligence and strength. Her family and friends will greatly miss her.

Marian lived life fully and with passion. She met her late husband R. Davis Cutting while a student at Wells College and the two of them built a life filled with family and friends, finding great joy in being part of the Ithaca community. She and Dave enjoyed supper club parties, dancing, sailing, traveling across the world, family ski trips, playing tennis and attending Cornell hockey games. The couple spent many happy summers at their cottage on Lake Cayuga and winters skiing at Greek Peak.

Marian majored in French at Wells College and was a life-long learner. She was always in the middle of a book and read the Ithaca Journal from start to finish every day. Marian was also an avid pilot. What began as a lark after her youngest child went off to college turned into decades of flying, with adventures across the United States, Alaska and Canada. No description of Marian's life would be complete without mentioning her love of dark chocolate.

More than anything, Marian will be remembered for her fierce love of her family and friends. Known as "Geemie" to her family, Marian was a loving and generous mother, friend, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marian was predeceased by her husband R. Davis Cutting, her two sons Robert Gordon Cutting and Richard Merrick Cutting, and her sister-in-law Jane Read. She is survived by her brother Bentley Merrick, his wife Betty, her brother-in-law Philip Read of Florida, her daughter, Jane Miller and her husband Robert of South Burlington, VT, her son, Davis Hill Cutting and his wife Jeannine of Ithaca, NY, her daughter-in-law Marcia Cutting of Ithaca, NY, her grandchildren Marian Miller, Nicholas Miller, his wife Mary, and Meredith McLoughlin and her husband Damian, Alison and Victoria Cutting, and her great-grandchildren Owen Miller and Keegan McLoughlin.

A celebration of Marian's life will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers, please consider the following local organizations: SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca NY 14850; Hospicare, 172 East King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850; Cornell Athletics-Hockey, Teagle Hall, Campus Road, Ithaca, NY 14850; and Wells College, 170 Main St, Aurora, NY 13026. Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
